How to choose the perfect rug?
There are 2 main options: either you go with your gut or you follow these pieces of advice:
- Choose the right size: it depends of the size of the room and the size of your furniture (for example, your sofa if for a living room). If you want to maximize the space, choose a large rug. If you want to create different corners and structure your room, then choose a more adjusted size.
- Choose the atmosphere: neutral, soft or vibrant. It's up to you! A rug will either fade into your current decor, complete your room or will change the atmosphere completely.
- Choose the colors: first decide if you want a warm or cold atmosphere. It will already tell you a lot about the colors you'd like. Blue is cold, red is warm. Any in between colors like green, purple or yellow will be either cold or warm depending on the other colors you mix them with. For exemple: green + grey = cold; green + wood or terracotta = warm. Second, if you have a neutral interior (= anything decorated with white, beige, greige, grey, black or wood, no colors basically), the good news is that you can choose any colors you like. If you already have a fully colorful interior, best to choose the color that you want to highlight. Or choose a white rug if you want to highlight your existing decoration.
- Choose the patterns: it's a very simple rule. The more minimalist and the bigger your space is, the crazier you can go with the patterns. The more maximalist and the smaller your place is, the more simple rug you should choose.

Where are the rugs made?
They're all handmade in Morocco.
I work with several artisans across Morocco, each with its own specialty. Mohamed from Marrakech makes all your poufs and cushions and he supervises the creation and finition of your custom-made rugs which are made by our very small team of Berber weavers in the mountains near Boujad.
All other rugs are handwoven in different Berber cooperatives owned and run by families over generations across various regions: Khemisset, Khenifra, Boujad, Tinghir, Tazenakht and the Atlas Mountains around Marrakech.
Can I have the same rug in another size?
Except if it's one of our made to order designs, I am afraid that each piece is unique and I only have one of each.
The rug I want is sold out, is it coming back in stock soon?
Sorry to say but it's very unlikely. Each piece is unique and I only have one of each. Only the made to order designs can be ordered again.
How often do you receive new rugs?
Every month, depending on what my artisans have to offer.
But (almost) never the same rug twice. Only some white simple designs might come back from time to time.
Are the rugs new or vintage?
Most are new, some are vintage. If vintage, it's indicated in the description of the rug.
What material are the rugs made of?
It's natural sheep wool.
Some are made with cotton (indicated in the description of the rug).
How to take care of my rug?
I provide rug care instructions with each order.
- Vacuum regularly
- Brush once or twice per year
- Clean as fast as you can if you make a stain (or your pet). Your best friend is the combo hot water + Woolite
- Give it a fresh smell: homemade spray of water, bicarbonate sodium and essential oil (I use mint). This is also useful as an insect repellent during spring and summer!
Please DO NOT leave your rug folded somewhere, anywhere for months... It needs to be aired and vacuumed from time to time at least.
Are all rugs checked and cleaned?
Each rug is first cleaned in Morocco. When I receive it and before it is shipped to you, I proceed to a proper check and cleaning process. Each rug is
- vacuumed
- brushed by hand
- cleaned of anything that might be stuck in the wool with tweezers
- washed with water and Woolite (soap for wool clothes)
- and sprayed with bicarbonate sodium and essential oil
Vintage rugs are treated with moth protection spray and steamed.
Where are you based?
I am based in Belgium. My showroom is at the Rue du Masy 2A, 6040 Jumet (Charleroi), Belgique.
Shipping: where, when, how much, how long, tracking...
I ship worldwide, either with the Belgian post services or with UPS. In any case, you receive a tracking code when your order is dispatched.
Shipping is free for orders over 100 EUR in Belgium and over 250 EUR in the EU. For other countries, the shipping fee will be calculated automatically at the checkout, but in case there is an overcharge, you'll be refunded the overcharge. Import taxes and duties are not included in the shipping fees.
I dispatch orders within 5 business days. Delivery depends on the country of destination. Usually 1 or 2 days for Belgium and the Netherlands, 3 days for France, 5 days for Luxembourg, one week elsewhere in the EU. Usually within 2-5 days for the US.
I want to see the rugs in real life
If you want to see them all, the best is to make an appointment at our showroom. Open everyday even Sunday, on appointment only.
The showroom is located at the Rue du Masy 2A, 6040 Jumet (Charleroi), Belgium. It's a private property. When at the gate, you can give me a call on +32474742237.
If you live in Belgium or near Lille, France, and if you hesitate only between some rugs, you can make an appointment at your home by booking up to 3 rugs in advance.
Do you offer home appointments?
Yes, I do!
- Anywhere in Belgium and Lille, France
- 50 EUR per rug as a booking fee
- Up to 3 rugs can be booked but I can take 5-10 depending on the size
- The booking fee is redeemable from any purchase from 250 EUR made during the appointment.
Do you accept returns?
Yes but only for online orders and if I am notified within 14 days of the delivery. The rug needs to be returned in the same condition as received within the next 14 days from the return notification. The return fee is your charge.
When I receive it, the rug is checked. If all good, you have the choice between a refund, an exchange or a coupon.
For in-person orders/appointments, all sales are final. You have 24 hours to ask for an exchange and up to 1 week to proceed to the exchange.
Returns are not accepted for custom made orders.
All orders are dispatched within 5 business days except for the items selected or custom made in Morocco
Shipping fees
Shipping is offered:
- in Belgium from 100 EUR
- in the EU from 250 EUR
- in the UK, Switzerland, Norway and Monaco from 1500 EUR (£1250)
- in the US from 2500 EUR ($2700)
- Other countries: shipping fees start at 250 EUR for medium & large rugs
Countries of delivery & customs fees
The available countries that I can ship to at the moment are:
- All countries in the EU - transit time between 2 and 10 business days
- United Kingdom - transit time between 5 and 10 business days
- Switzerland - transit time between 5 and 10 business days
- United States - transit time between 5 and 10 business days
- Canada (except for wooden items) - transit time between 5 and 10 business days
- Australia (rugs only) - transit time between 10 and 20 business days
- New Zealand (rugs only) - transit time between 10 and 20 business days
- Saudi Arabia (rugs only) - transit time between 10 and 30 business days
- Mexico & Brazil (rugs only) - transit time between 10 and 20 business days
- Elsewhere (rugs only) - transit time between 10 and 20 business days
Note that prices and shipping fees do not include extra taxes or custom fees for countries outside the EU. Tree of Colors does not collect any extra fees that might be required upon import in countries outside the EU. In that case, you are solely responsible for any extra taxes and custom fees.
- For the UK: there is now an export process from the EU to the UK. This means that you'll be required from HMRC to pay the following fees: UK VAT (20%), custom duty (2%) and a clearance fee (£12) on top of the price of the item + the shipping fee together. The process is the following : if you'd like to place an order, please contact me ahead so that I can send you an order link with the Belgian VAT free prices + accurate shipping fee. UPS will contact you before the delivery to ask you to pay for the above-mentioned import fees (UK VAT and brokerage fees). When the import is done in the UK, please send me the proof that you paid the VAT.
- For the US: you'll be required to pay to the US Customs the State Sale Tax (that depends on the state you ship to) and custom fees on top of the price of the item + the shipping fee together (4,5% for rugs, blankets, cushions and poufs).
- For Australia: for goods with a value over 1000 AUD, you pay 5% of the value of the good as import duty + 10% of total value of the goods + freight + duty as import GST
Shipping
All orders are dispatched within 5 business days and are carefully packed with bubble wrap in a carton box.
Once the order is dispatched, you will receive an email confirming the shipping as well as a tracking code. All orders receive a tracking code and are insured. All orders are dispatched with the Belgian post services, Bpost, within the European Union. To ship elsewhere or to ship large rugs (bigger than 2 by 3m), it will be done via UPS.
You are solely responsible of incorrect delivery addresses and this may give rise to additional delivery costs.
The stated sales prices are always exclusive of delivery costs, unless stated otherwise.
If there is any visible damage to and/or qualitative deficiencies of an article or other deficiency in the delivery, you need to report it immediately to us at adeline@treeofcolors.com. Please send us pictures of the box with the label visible, the inside and outside of the packaging and of the damage caused to the article. This is necessary in order to asses the damage caused during the delivery and to request compensation.
Cancellations for orders made online
You may cancel an order until it is dispatched. Note that you will be notified of the dispatching of your order after it is actually dispatched (either the day before, or on the same day).
Returns for orders of a physical product made online
You have the right to withdraw and return your order within 14 days after the delivery of your order. To do so, you need to notify us about your decision to return your items by sending an email to adeline@treeofcolors.com and by completing the form below.
The right of withdrawal period will expire 14 calendar days after the date when you or a third party that you indicated other than the carrier physically received the goods.
In any event, you have no later than 14 calendar days from the day that you notify us of your decision to return an item, to send back or hand over the goods to Adeline Bastin - Tree of Colors, Rue du Masy 2A, 6040 Jumet, Belgium. You are on time if you have sent back the goods before the period of 14 calendar days has expired.
You are solely responsible for the direct costs for returning the goods.
In case of eventual returns, you are requested to return articles in their original state and packaging, including all delivered accessories and user notices. If the returned product is reduced in value in any way, we are entitled to hold you liable and demand compensation for each depreciation in value of the goods that are due to your use of the goods that goes beyond what is necessary in order to determine the nature, characteristics and operation of the goods.
Only articles that are returned in the original packaging, along with all accessories, instructions and invoice or sales receipt can be returned.
In the case where you return an item then exchange it for another item, this exchange is final and cannot be returned nor refunded nor exchanged.
The right of withdrawal is not applicable for any order that was custom-made specifically for yourself or someone else. Items that were specifically selected and ordered for the customer and that therefore were not available in stock at the showroom in Belgium at the time of the order are final and are neither redeemable nor exchangeable once the order is placed.
For shipments outside the European Union, all sales are final. Items shipped outside the EU will not be returned, exchanged nor refunded. If an item is anyway returned, the customer will be charged for the return fee, import taxes and other taxes if any.
Exchanges after a purchase made in person
If you buy a product in person with us (at the showroom, at a pop-up store managed by Tree of Colors or in person at your home or any other place that we agreed to meet to), all sales are final. If notified within 24 hours of your purchase, you have the right to ask for an exchange for an amount minimum of the value of your purchase by sending an email to adeline@treeofcolors.com and by completing the form below. You can only exchange a product against another product (or other products) that is available in stock at the time of the exchange.
If the returned product is reduced in value in any way, we are entitled to hold you liable and demand compensation for each depreciation in value of the goods that are due to your use of the goods that goes beyond what is necessary in order to determine the nature, characteristics and operation of the goods.

RETURN FORM
This is your return form. Please complete attached return form and add it in your return shipment. When we receive the returned product in perfect shape, we will re-imburse you within a couple of days. Please comply with the instructions underneath, enabling us to handle your return shipment as well as possible.
- Complete the return form.
- Put the article in the original box or any other firm cardboard box. When you return fragile products, you should wrap these again with the protective material (ex. bubble wrap). Add your return form in the package. Close the box and seal it carefully.

- You are entirely responsible for the return of the product(s) and the return cost involved.
- When your return shipment has been processed, you will receive a confirmation message per e-mail. We will re-imburse you within a couple of days.
- Keep your proof of shipment until we sent you the confirmation e-mail that we processed your return shipment.
- We will not accept returned products that have been used, worn, are damaged or are incomplete.

Refunds & coupons for orders of a physical product made online
After your items have been sent back to us and after checking the content of your return shipment, you will be able to choose between getting a coupon for the amount that your paid for the returned items or getting a refund within 14 days for the amount that you paid for the returned items. Please notify us your decision.
In case of refund, you'll be refunded using the same means of payment as you used in the initial transaction, unless you explicitly agreed otherwise.
In the case where you return an item then exchange it for another item, this exchange is final and cannot be returned nor refunded nor exchangeable.
For the orders shipped outside the European Union, sales are final. Items cannot be returned or exchanged or refunded. If an item is anyway returned, the customer will be charged for the return fee, import taxes and other taxes if any.
